Former P.M. Died 6 Yea rs Ago Today

Six years ago today the Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates, a former Prime Minister, and a member of the New Zealand War Cabinet, collapsed at his desk in his office in Parliament House and died almost immediately. Mr Coates was given a State funeral and was buried in the village churchyard at Matakohe, near his home. Good progress is now being made with the building of the Coates Memorial Church there. Local men had been found for the contractors and they were working on Saturdays as well as during liormal hours. Renforcing pillars have been built and a mass of scaffolding has been constructed for the brickwork,
