Chinch Of Chrisi’ Youth Banquet

The annual banquet of the Senior Youth fellowship of the Church of Christ, Whangarei, took place on Tuesday night. There was an attendance of 108.

The tables and the floral decorations were tastefully arranged. A programme of musical and elocutionary items was greatly enjoyed. The following presented items: Pianoforte bracket, Miss Stubbs; songs, Mrs J. Paterson, Misses G. Seed, G. Morgan and L. Banks, Mrs H. W. Pannett and Kelvin, Leonie and Kelvin Pannett; recitations, Joan McKinnon. The toast of The Church was proposed by the president of the Youth Fellowship (Miss Ray W. McLauchlan), who also welcomed the guests. Mr G. T. W. Green responded. Mr G. Venn proposed the toast of the Senior Youth Fellowship, which was responded to by the vice-president (Mr G. MacKenzie). The minister of the church (the Rev. James Crawford) presided. A party from Wellsford was also present with the minister (the Rev. Phil Griffiths). A happy and successful function was brought to a conclusion by the Doxology and the Benediction.

Four members of the crew lost their lives when a Norwegian collier, Henrik, struck a mine off the Swedish coast. The ship went down in five minutes. Fifteen members of the crew were rescued, several of them were injured. ..... .
