Bill Dunning In Hospital
Well-known Rodney and Northland sportsman, Bill Dunning is a patient in the Auckland hospital. He is undergoing a serious operation this week. Now 60 years of age, Bill still ranks among Northland’s best cricketers: he plays hockey for Matakana; he is a useful tennis player; and, as a sporting enthusiast, it is doubtful if he has a peer. He had a pelvis broken and his back hurt in an accident 25 years ago and underwent a stomach operation in 1943. Despite all this, he carries his age remarkably well. Last summer he scored centuries for Matakana and was one of the best run-getters for Rodney in its two Dargaville Shield matches. Says Bill in. a letter from hospital to a Whangarei friend: “I am doing it hard not being able to play hockey today and letting my team down, but have oiled my two bats ready for next season’s cricket.”
