OTAMATEA BUILDING PERMITS Building permits totalling £23,010 in value were issued in Otamatea County last month, reported the county engineer (Mr A. W. Tassell). The issuing of permits was causing him a considerable amount of additional work, and delays had occurred in a number of instances, he said. Mr Tassell stated he believed many people were not aware permits were necessary lor even minor repairs to existing buildings.
POWER CUTS Power was cut off in the north and south ends of Whangarei between 4.45 and 5.38 p.m. t yesterday. This was done to reduce the heavy load during that time. Sifice yesterday power has been cut off in stages in the Morningside area between 9 an. and- 4 p.m. to enable reconstruction of thd power line. Notification of these disconnections was last advertised on Monday. * COUNTRY WEEK The Country Week hockey tournament to be conducted in Auckland will commence on Monday June 13 and conclude on Saturday June 18. The concluding match of the tournament will be the annual Town v. Country fixture, when a representative side selected from the provincial teams participating in the tournament will play the Auckland reps.
PARCELS TO BERLIN The parcel post service to civilians in all sections of Berlin has been resumed. This advice has been received from the Chief Post Office. Whangarei.
