Claims Breaches Of School Bus Licences
NEW PLYMOUTH, Fri. (Sp.).— Allegations that some school-bus operators with contract licences were not observing the terms of their licences and were carrying passengers other than- schoolchildren for what ' were sometimes considerable distances, were made by Mr S: L. Reeves before the No. 2 Transport Licensing Authority (Mr P. Skoglund) yesterday. Mr Reeves was opposing three applications for licences. '
‘‘lt appears, that the' use of the school bus for contract services is becoming rapidly a short cut to overcoming the requirements of the act,” said Mr Reeves. He added that on one occasion a Kaponga operator went to New Plymouth, picked up a football team, and tool? it to Wellington and back. “What you say refers to enforcement of. the regulations,” said Mr Skoglund. “I issue a licence and, if the Transport Department does not see that the terms of the licence .are observed, I cannot be blamed ”
