Waikato Buyers Active At Mareretu Sale

WAIKATO buyers w.ere again to the fore, securing fully one-third of the offering at the fourth sale of the Northland Jersey week series, held at Mareretu yesterday, when Messrs Allan arid C. D. Worthington submitted G 7 head of their Ashgrove and Kintyre Jersey studs. , . The bulk of the offering comprised in-calf heifers which sold to lOOgn. The few yearling bulls on the catalogue met little or no inquiry. ' •

The average price pf the 51 heifers which changed hand? was 33gn. For lOOgn Weight Stephenson' and Co. Ltd. as agents bought the high class heifer Fencourt Silver Fox, from Ashgrove Royal Lady VHC, a daughter of Almadale Carbine, sire of 18 VHC cows.

Another heifer showing good breed character was purchased by Mr B. P. Hawken, of Maunu, who acquired Ashgrove Ace's Victorcss 'at 82Jgn. Mr M. Wallace, of Kaitaia, paid' GOgn for another daughter of Ashgrove Ace, in Ashgrove Ace’s Felicity, a maternal sister to Ashgrove Rita VHC,..COR, 4941 b fat in 3.95 days. .

WANT TO'FAB NORTH From Jersey week sales it has become apparent that Waikato buyers, who. in the past have restricted thenactivities to certain selected and old established studs, have operated over a wider sphere in this series of sales. As a result, a large proportion of the stock offering for sale has gone to the Waikato district.

Another noteworthy point has been the activity of Far North breeders, who have operated freely this season.
