Will Not Recognise 'Scab' Carpenters' Union
FEDERATION OF LAB OUR . . .
WELLINGTON, Fri. (P.A.). —“Under no circumstances will the Federation of Labour recognise the scab Carpenters’ Union in Auckland, and it will place all its resources and strength behind the bona fide union.” <•
This was the text of a resolution adopted by the Federation of Labour conference today after it heard the vice-president (Mr F. P. Walsh) state that the national executive had held a meeting with the Prime Minister and Minister of Labour last night.
The object of this meeting, said Mr Walsh, was to see whether, at this last stage, a solution could be found to the problem of registration • of the new union, but it had been found that, as a result of the Carpenters’ Union issuing an injunction against registration, the matter was now out of the hands of the Government. JOBS, BUT NO TAGS "Jobs are available for carpenters desiring to return to work, provided nn tags arc involved.”
This statement was made today by the secretary of the Auckland Master Builders’ Association (Mr M. F. Bunker), commenting on the report from Wellington that the Auckland carpenters had been asked to resume normal work. Mr Bunker said the most recent estimate of the number of carpenters still out of the building industry was 700, but this figure had probably been reduced during the past week or so. (SEE PAGE .7)
