Marston's s Beth Wins Again At Mangakahia.

THE VVaiuku competitor, L. Marston, followed up his double heading win at Maungakaramea earlier in the week with an outstanding performance in the long head at the first day of the Mangakahia sheep dog trials yesterday. t As at Maungakaramea, Mr Marston won the event with his bitch Beth, which dropped only H points in the possible 50.

She scored 24 points more than the second dog Moe, owned by Mr M. Stanaway, of Port Waikato. Half-points separated the second, third, fourth and fifth placed dogs. Beth put up a splendid run. She lost half a point through slowing up before heading and a point for allownig th sheep to get off the course during the pull down the hill. The trophy for the maiden man and dog in the long head was won by C. Shaw with Smut. N Wilson with Spring was second. The R. J. Marr Cup for the maiden deg scoring most points in the same event was won b; H. Parkin’s Fay. which scored 44J points.

640 YD. COURSE. The sheep, which were lent to the club by the Alison Brothers, of Parakao, were lively and kept the dogs right up to their work. The pulls down the hill generally were a little fast on the clear ground and dogs found it difficult to get control at the bottom.

The 640 yd course, one of the longest in the North, on Mr C. E. Campbell’s property at parakao, is situated on clear ground, but is not as easy as it appears.

The rolling face of the hill presents difficulties to the. dogs when pulling. Although numerically the field of 23 was disappointing, the standard of performance was high class. Twelve of the dogs scored 40 points or more. Mr Marston’s success gave him the N. J. Wilson Cup for the ensuing 12 months. JUDGE WELL PLEASED. The judge of the heading events, Mr J. E. White, of Okaihau, was well pleased with the general standard of work in the long head. Possible points were 22 for me head, 22 for the pull, and six for work at the ring.
