Ask Watersiders To Pay Damages

AUCKLAND, Fri. (Sp.) The Auckland Waterside Workers’ Union will be asked to pay the cost of damages caused by its members to the Town Hall at the monthly slopwork meeting yesterday morning. Men in the front seats of the dress circle had placed their feet against the balustrade and had scarred the new paint so badly that it will have to be replaced. At the first meeting following Uie recent redecoration of the hall the watersiders scarred part of the wall near the entrance to the dress circle, and dirty marks had to be cleaned off the cream paint as far as possible. A name had been carved into the wood of the balustrade. Cost of repairs will be about £3 The town clerk (Mr T. W. M. Ashby) said that if every hirer of the hall did the same amount of damage the. place would soon be in a deplorable condition.
