Mother Of 13, Daughter Mist Shoplifting
AUCKLAND, £ri. (P.A.).— The mother of 13 children, Alice Victoria Bennett, 45, and'her married daughter, Mildred Alice Tompkins, 24, pleaded guilty in the Police Court today to shoplifting charges. Police said Bennett was caught with three pairs of children’s bloomers, valued at 7/6, in her shopping bag. Tompkins placed children’s wear, valued at 11/5, under her cardigan. Neither had been in trouble before.
“So many women go around shops and steal goods and when caught express sorrow,” said Mr J. H. Luxford, S.M. “They think they can get away with it.
“You will each be fined £lO, to be paid in weekly instalments of 10/-.”
