Curotta, Goodacre Break Records
NAPIER, Mon. (Sp.).—M. Curotta (Australia) broke the New Zealand record for 220 yards at Napier on Saturday, clocking 21.3, which was one-tenth of a second faster than J. Treloar's record set up at McLean’s Park two years ago. Curotta won by seven yards. He also equalled the 100 yards record of 9.6, but the following wind was too strong to allow official recognition. G. Goodacre (Australia) beat the New Zealand Olympic hurdler, J. M. Holland, in the 220 yards hurdles in 24.4 secs, which was two seconds better than A. R. P. Eustace’s New Zealand record. Goodacre also beat Holland in the 440 yards hurdles in 54.6, eighttenths of a second outside the record. D. White (Australia) beat J. D. Sinclair, the New Zealand mile champion, by inches in the 880 yards in 1.56.5.
G. Avery (Australia) won the hop, step and jump, with 46ft slin. and the broad jump with 20ft 7in. The Australians won each of the seven events in which they competed.
