Mr L„ Morkhom
The death has occurred in the Northern Wairoa Hospital of Mr Luther Markham, aged 7G. Two years ago Mr Markham retired from the employment of the Ruawai Dairy Company, of which he had been secretary for 27 years. Prior to that he was secretary of the Maungatapere Dairy Company.
He had also been master and secretary of the Ruawai Masonic Lodge, and secretary of the Ruawai Bowling Club, of which he was made a life member last year. Born in England, Mr Markham took up farming in Taranaki, and moved from there to Maungatapere, where his keen interest in sport was a strong factor in the establishment of the first tennis courts.
He still had farming interests at Parahi at the time of his death.
A staunch supporter of the Methodist Church all his life, Mr Markham took a keen interest in the churches at Maungatapere and Ruawai. The funeral was held yesterday in the Ruawai Methodist Trust Church, and he was buried in the Matakohe Lawn Cemetery. Mr Markham is survived by his wife.
Mr H. A. Going, of Whangarei. has received advice that he has been successful in passing Section C of the annual examinations conducted by the Pharmacy Board of New Zealand.
