Migrants To New Zealand
LONDON, Wed. (11 a.m.). —The number of migrants carried to New Zealand in the first nine months of 1948 was 1553, and to Australia 14,000, said Lord Addison in reply to a Parliamentary question.
He emphasised that these figures related only to Governmentarranged passages. He said that those who travelled independently would bring the totals to 4500 to New Zealand and 22,600 to Australia. It is estimated that total lifts by sea in 1949 will amount to 4500 to New Zealand and 65,000 to 75,000 to Australia.
