Government Defeat in House of Loeds

LONDON, Wed. (1 p.m.).—The Government suffered its first Parliamentary defeat of the session when the House of Lords by 47 votes to 30. called for an inquiry into existing rates of war pensions and disability allowances. The Government strenuously resisted the proposals, the Leader of the House (Lord Addison) contending that such an inquiry would carry a reflection on the work of the Pensions Ministry which had been uniformly praised. Conservative. Liberal and non-party Peers joined in supporting .the motion.
