Northland Reps At County Conference
No 1 Ward of the New Zealand Counties’ Association is to be fully represented at the annual conference at Dunedin next year. This was decided after discussion at a meeting in the No 1 Ward at Whangarei yesterday. “If members of the ward intend to go to Dunedin arrangements will have to be made early for accommodation." said the secretary (Mr H. Chappell.) when he asked for instructions. “We should work as a team.” said Mr W. G. Somerville. “If we go, arrangements should be made for us all to be together.” Mr H. T. Atkinson: I wonder if these conferences are worth while. Should we travel all the way to Dunedin after on) '"'-''nces last year? "The chairman put a fast one over on us with the remit sponsored by the Whangarei Couny Council on hospital rating. I still feel sore about it.” P.M. “BOMBASTIC” "It is not the fault of the conference, but what is done at the conference.” said Mr J. Morrison. “I think all local bodies should take an interest in it. It is the only way to work in a body.” Mr A. C. Yarborough: The Government is not our boss. We have some status. We have to keep hammering at them and, if necessary, put them cut. “The Prime Minister lias been very bombastic over the question of hos-. pint rating. We must go in a body.” j It was decided to ask County Coun- j oils to submit the names of delegates j likely to attend the conference and j arrangements will be made early next | year for accommodation.
