Boys/ Brigade Demonstration

All branches of work done by No. 2 Company of the Boys’ Brigade attached to the Whangarei Presbyterian Church were illustrated to a large number of parents and friends in the church hall on Saturday evening, when the annual prize giving and demonstration took place.

There was a good parade of boys under the leadership of Lieutenant Vincent Appleton, who was warmly commended for the manner in which he and his officers had kept the brigade together during the war years and were building up its strength. The chaplain. Rev. T. H. Burton, conducted devotipns. and he also thanked the officers, instructors and parents' committee for the energy and cooperation they had devoted to the brigade’s welfare during the year. BADGES PRESENTED

Mrs Burton presented the badges and certificates earned by the boys. The brigade was inspected by Mr E. J. J. Welch, who selected Private David Reyburn as the best turned out boy on parade. The programme presented by the boys included demonstrations oi first aid, drill. Morse and semaphore signalling and boxing, the last named being supervised by Mr C. Cowan, who was captain of the brigade for some years before the war.
