Whangarei BHS Cadets Win Highest Honours
WHAT is probably the highest New Zealand military cadet honour possible has been won by the Whangarei Boys’ High School Cadet Battalion.
Advice has been received that the school has won the main trophy of the Imperial Daughters of Empire competition for the Northern Military District.
This means that the school has beaten all secondary schools for as far south as Te Ivuiti, and including the large Auckland schools. The Northern Military District is the largest in New Zealand.
In addition, the medical section of the school has won the medical trophy in the same competition. Previously it had been announced that the Whangarei battalion had won section 2 of the competition. for schools of between 250 and 500 pupils, and Warrant Officer R. M. Dickie had been adjudged the best cadet N.C.O. in the district. “This latest news that we have won the overall trophy is tremendous news indeed,” said the headmaster of the school (Mr H. A. Henderson), today. “Great credit is due to the officers and N.C.O.’s of the staff who trained the boys to such a high pitch.”
