Higher Pay For Timberworkers

WELLINGTON, Mon. (P.A.). —All wage rates for adult workers under the New Zealand (except Marlborough. Nelson and Westland) Timberworkers’ Award, have been increased by lid. an hour for those engaged on an hourly basis, and by 5-/ a week for workers on a weekly rate. The new base rate for hourly workers is 3/6:?. These increases are incorporated in the new award issued by the Court of Arbitration. The nightwatchmen’s weekly rate has been increased by 5/-. For boys and youths an increase of 2 T a week was granted except in logging, bush sawmills and planing mills where the increase is 1/- a day. Female workers receive 2/6 a week increase. Special allowances paid in consideration of isolation and weather remain unaltered. Anniversary Day or day in lieu thereof, has been added to the paid holidays. The award conies into force ir January 5 and is for a term of one year.
