Solvation Army S .S. Anniversary

Celebrations marking the anniversary of the Whangarei Salvation Army’s Sunday School were held during the week-end under the direction of Major and Mrs J. Mahaffie, of Auckland. Vocal solos, elocution, company' songs and cornet solos were features of a two and a half, hours’ entertainment on Saturday afternoon. The tiny tots presented two action songs and the boy scout troop introduced a light note with its camp fire scene. The Legion Girls gave a display of drilling and an exhibition of gymnastics. Prizes presented were; Senior medal, Evelyn Robertson; second prize. Marion A’Court; third, Beverley Twidle. Junior medal, Lorna Roberts; second, Lois Jenkins; third, Marion Roberts. Special medal, Ruth A’Court. During the morning service on Sunday. Anne Jones and Marion Burns sang solos. The afternoon was devoted to a primary programme, and E. Jenkins sang a solo. During the evening service, the Youpg People’s Singing Company gave request items, and Evelyn Robertson sang.

Mrs Mahaffie presented the prizes during the afternoon.
