Sale Of Wine
The restrictions on the sale of wine are altered. In the original bill private sales could not be made in quantities of more than two gallons, but the committee has removed this from thhe bill. A licence or club charter, however, is still required. Restoration polls are to be taken in the Ashburton and Geraldine areas in successive election years if required. Another clause authorises holders of winemaker’s licences to blend wine of their own manufacture with other wines. There is a condition that the strength of the wine after blending must not exceed 40 per cent proof spirit. The prohibition on the drinking of liquor on public conveyances is under tended to harbour, lake or river ferries for which no packet licence is held. The power of welfare officers under the Maori Social and Economic Advancement Act and the- chairman of tribal committees and tribal executives is extended to allow them to apply for a prohibition order against Maoris.
