King Country Club Charters
WELLINGTON, Sat. (Sp.)—Temporary club charters may be issued in the King Country pending the taking of a poll next year, under a new clause which has been inserted in the Licensing Amendment Bill. The Minister of Internal Affairs, in his discretion, is authorised to grant temporary club charters, provided that the clubs comply with the conditions laid down in the original bill. These charters may be issued if the European vote is carried by the requisite 60 per cent, and is irrespective of whether the Maori vote is carried or not, or whether the electors of the King Country are in favour of tlie trust proposal or not. Should the licensing issue be defeated at the King Country poll, the temporary charters are to expire 14 days after the declaration of the poll. If the poll favours licensing, the charters will continue in force until the applications for continuation by the holders are disposed of by the Licensing Control Commission. Applications are to be made within 14 days of the poll to the Minister of Internal Affairs, who will refer them to the commission for its consideration.
