Choral Society Af Waipu

The first concert of the Waipu Choral Society was held last night. There was a large attendance. The choir, under the baton of Mr Ivan Whitehead, gave a varied programme of excerpts from the Gilbert and Sullivan operas. Those taking the solo parts were Mesdames J. Davy, C. McLean, I. Johnston, Miss J. Rhodes, Messrs Anstice, Huntley, Barnes, Cooper and Schultz. At the conclusion of the concert a presentation was made to the conductor in appreciation of his services. Bouquets were also presented to the pianist (Mrs S. McLean) and the organisers, Mrs Murdoch and Mrs Davy). The' choir was organised some three months ago and has filled a long-felt want in the district. A high standard has been attained. Supper and dancing followed the concert.
