Too Exhausted To Start Another War'
HAMILTON, Fri. (Sp.)—Although the situation in Berlin had every element for the starting of another conflict, he did not think that there would be another war because of the exd state of the countries likely to be involved. In 15 years time, though it might be different. This comment was made by the High Commissioner for Australia (Mr A. R. Cutler, V.C.) at an assembly of members of Rotary clubs of the Waikato in Hamilton. General international affairs were discussed by Mr Cutler, especially the recent Prime Ministers’ conference in London. This conference would mark a milestone in the history of the family of countries, he said. As a marked contrast, there was the United Nations conference at Paris where there had been a harsh divergence of view’s.
Mr Cutler said the outlook and reaction of all south-east Asian countries were being closely watched by Australia as being a matter of vital concern to her own future. FIRMLY ALIGNED
The Government and people of Australia had aligned themselves firmly and confidently against any form of totalitarian administration.
It was gratifying that India and Pakistan had avowed their intention to stay within the framework of the Commonwealth of Nations.
Although there had been a great measure of agreement on international affairs within the British Commonwealth, Australia felt that until there was a similar measure of agreement and cooperation in the United Nations the way ahead was long, arduous and not very enheartening.
