De Mon Troupe Filmed By NFU

While attending the New Zealand weight-lifting championships at Palmerston North, members of the wellknown “De Mon Troupe” from Whangarei gave exhibitions of hand balancing.

At a concert, sponsored by the Palmerston North Amateur Weight-Lifting Association, the troupe performed before an audience of nearly 1000. In addition to the balancing exhibition, Peter Newberry (“De Mon”) performed his cycling act. So appreciative were the people of the Manawatu capital, that arrangements were made to have the troupe filmed by the National Film Unit next day. Over 400 ft of film were used to record the acts.

On Monday afternoon members of the troupe were the guests of the Palmerston North Labour Day Sports Assocation. A performance was given before another large audience. During the three exhibitions which involved 17 balances, not one miss was recorded.
