Homeservicemen And Rehabilitation
WELLINGTON, Sat. (P.A.)—One of the things that was working against the New Zealand Homeservicemen’s Association was that circumstances had prevented proper rehabilitation of many homeservicemen and women, said Mr F. W. MacDermott, the president, speaking at the association’s fourth annual conference today. “We have cases where homeservicemen have had to be satisfied with second best jobs,” he said. “Many of them have been directed into these jobs. Our task is to see that they receive better consideration. “We will be approaching the Government again on the question of priorities for ex-servicemen.” LOWERING PRIORITIES
The Defence Minister (Mr Jones) said the Government policy of progressively lowering priorities for homeservicemen was exemplified by the recent decision of the rehabilitation board to make home servicemen eligible for certain busines loans. The Governor General said the association had a recognised position in the life of New Zealand and appealed to all home servicemen to rally round the brandhes and become financial members.
Also present were Sir Howard Kippenburger, Dominion president of the RSA, and the acting Mayor (Mr R. L. Macalister).
