No Support For Protest Strike In Brisbane
SYDNEY, Fri. (11 a.m.). —The Australian Council of Trade Unions has rejected a move by the militant unions to plan a strike in Brisbane in protest against the gaoling of a barrister and four unionists for the non-payment of fines incurred under the AntiPicketing Act.
The council dissociated itself from the militant move by refusing to send its emergency committee or executive officer to Brisbane today to confer with the unions on strike plans. At mass meetings at all Queensland ports, watersiders and seamen decided against strike action, and passed to the Australian Council of Trade Unions the problem of obtaining release of the prisoners.
“The comrades’ attempt to whoop up fresh trouble in Queensland to punish that state for maintaining a Government which will not let the Communist larrikins rub ’the public's face in the dirt has been a big flop,” comments the Telegraph.
