' Northland' Not Supported

DARGAVILLE, Thu. <Sp.).—Latest Northern Wairoa organisation to regard as trivial the campaign for use of “Northland” exclusively as the name of the North Auckland peninsula is the Hobson County Council. When a request was tabled from the Whangarei Chamber of Commerce seeking support for the proposal, the letter was merely received. Mover of this was Cr S. S. Green. The chairman (Cr W. G. Sommerville): What? Don't you want to agree with them?

Cr Green: To talk about naming a piece of land down near the South Foie “Northland” is just ridiculous. The council as a whole sided with him in this view, and without further discussion the motion was carried.

The county clerk (Mr R. E. Barnes) mentioned that the matter was shortly to come before the Geographical Board.
