Focal point in Northland Rugby tomorrow, is Kaikohe, venue of the first Harding Shield match of the season between Bay of Islands, and the challengers, Northern Wairoa. With the holders minus the services of the two Smiths, K. Pearson, and N. Cherrington, Northern Wairoa is fancied to take the trophy, but there is

sure to be a big crowd of Bay supporters there to give moral aid to their depleted rep side. The issue is very open and it would not be surprising if the Northerners sent the challengers home minus the proverbial ‘bacon.’

The match will have added interest as a Northland rep trial. Sole selector Ted Griffin will be there in the role of talent scout. Feature attraction in the Whangarei senior championship is the meeting of Hora Hora and City at Rugby Park. Old Boys travel to Hikurangi. MANY ATTRACTIONS

A double feature bill is being presented by the Northland Rugby League at Jubilee Park. The Northland Moari reps meet City Rovers from Auckland, and this is followed by the senior knockout final between City and Hikurangi.

For hockey enthusiasts, it is Powell Cup day at Kensington. The holders, Rodney, are defending the trophy against Whangarei. A Rodney women’s rep team is playing a Whangarei team in the early fixture, and the High School A team is meeting a Whangarei men’s B side.

A Whangarei women’s A team plays Northern Wairoa at Dargaville for the Hannam Shield.
