Snooker Title-Holder Beaten By Pierce
The title-holder, R. Crawford, was j beaten in the Northland snooker! championship last night. He went down to N. Pierce, who J won 59 —27, 49—56 and 54 —35. i F. Smith beat H. Barnes, 58—41 and 63—27. Splendid potting by Pierce and excellent safety play by Crawford were the features of their match. Pierce established a lead of 33—12 i in the deciding game with four reds. left on the table. Each of these was potted by Crawford but he failed to sink a colour. | He reached 31 with snookers before \ Pierce had a chance of potting a 1 ball. Pierce then collected the yel- 1 low and green. Crawford got the brown but conceded five points on the blue. This and the pink were pocketed by Pierce for a well-earned win. On Monday night, J. Marsh plays j M. Brott and R. Andrews plays J.
