CAPITAL UP 35 P.C. UNIMPROVED 26 P.C.

BAY COUNTY VALUATIONS

KAWAKAWA, Fri. (Sp.).—A comparative statement giving this year’s and last year’s valuation figures for the ridings and town areas of the Bay of Islands County, as received from the Valuation Department, was presented to this week’s meeting of the Bay of Islands County Council by the clerk (Mr J. L. Rayner).

The figures had been compiled from individual valuations received by the clerk, from the Valuation Department. It was requested that they be withheld from publication until today, their earlier provision being purely for convenience of the local county office.

Increases of 35 per cent in capital value and of 26.8 per cent in unimproved value were noted.

The county’s capital value rose by £678,387 from £2,260,936 to £2,939,323. Its unimproved value rose by £136,479 from £594,138 to £730,617. RUSSELL RIDING HIGHEST Highest riding rise was in Russell — 1C4.4 per cent capital, 106.2 per cent unimproved. Next best was Kerikeri, with 38.3 per cent capital and 35 per cent unimproved. After that came Pakaraka with 34.2 per cent capital and 26.7 per cent unimproved; Towai, 36.2 and 21 per cent; Kawakawa, 23.5 and 23.1 percent; Okaihau, 29.2 and 14.7 per cent; Tautoro, 29.7 and 3.8 per cent; Mataraua, 22.1 and 4.5 per cent; Waimate North, 13.2 and 14 per cent. Kawakawa and Russell town districts were unchanged from last year’s figures, the revaluation having taken place in both townships before then. The county clerk (Mr .T. L. Rayner'' commented that, perhaps, the Bay of Islands fcounty might be said to have escaped lightly. He had recently learnt that Waipa County had been 70 per cent up, Franklin 65 per cent, Stratford 43 per cent, and another North Island county 72 per cent. The South Island counties had gone up. on the average, 33 per cent.
