NEW PLYMOUTH. Believed' to be the first birds ever carried by air from Australia to New Zealand, 36 Australian finches have arrived at New Plymouth as a gift to a Taranaki fancier. Carried in a speciallybuilt box, the birds were fIQWJU from Melbourne fo Sidney, and then across tpe Tasman by a Skymaster thesame night. Some of the birds are rare, and extreme care has to be taken to acclimatise them after such rapid transit.
