MAIZE
GISBORNE. The Minister of Agriculture (Mr Cullen) travelled through the flood-rav-aged Poverty |Bay flats yesterday, met groups of settiers who had suffered. .
He was ‘ mpressed with the severe extent of the district losses, and promised; to make recommendations regarding relief,* details of which he was! unable to discuss. i
Mr Cullen \yas particularly concerned with the fate of jthe maize crop. The Minister calculated that j it would just be possible to get throughi the year \4ithout importing maize from abroad.! The extent!- to which the Gisborne crop could be harvested would still have an important bearing upon tite question of importation.— (P.A.)
