State Hunters In From Back Country
WELLINGTON, Sat. fSp.).— About 100 Government hunters are leaving their deer, chamois, thar, goat and pigculling camps for a well-earned holiday during the off-season. Speaking of the stalking feats of the state cullers, one experienced hunter said he knew of two men who had killed 50 tnar in one day.
Five men had once killed 800 goats in one day, and, on occasions, parties had shot more than 200 deer in one day. Individual records, as Tar as he knew, were 68 deer to one rifle in a day, and about 1400 in a season, this tally being put up in Southland. A number of leading hunters will assemble in Wellington shortly for their annual conference, when the strategy of eliminating pests will be discussed.
