Farua Bay paua shell, and the Solomon Islands are apparently all the same to five-year-olds. Two of them noticed an elderly man in a Whangarei street recently. He was leaning on a walking stick which had been sent to him by his sailor son, who had visited the Solomons during the war. The slick was carved and inlaid with mother-of-pearl.
