Otamatea Rugby Find

Otamatea appears to have unearthed a real “find” in the opening series of senior Rugby championship matches on Saturday. He is John Nelson, a young brother of Jim, who won great admiration at Moerewa last season as full-back for the pakehas against the Maoris in the final Ranfurly shield trial.

John scored over 20 of Mangawai’s 32 points against Kaiwaka. He displayed ability as a three-quarter and also as a goal-kick. If he carries on in this fashion there may be a bright career ahead of him in the national game.
