Heavier Power Cuts In Auckland

AUCKLAND, Fri. (Sp.L—'The Auciland Power Board has imposed heave: cuts on its consumers. The new restrictions are:—
Whole area, except essential users, previouly cut from midnight to 1 a.m. Sundays to Thursdays, 11 p.m. to 1 a.m.; Fridays and Saturdays, 11 p.m. until necessary savings are made. Industrial and commercial users, previously cut from 4.20 p.m. to 5.20 p.m.: Every day of the week, 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. Water-heaters: May be turned on between 9 p.m. and 7 a.m. each night. Radiators; Completely banned. Protests
Strong protests at the latest cuts resulting in a shut-down in industry at 4 p.m. daily were voiced at a representative meeting of business interests this morning.
1 Delegates were present from the j Manufacturers' Association, Employers Association, Chamber of Commerce and the Retailers’ Association.
Mr S. Howard Hunter, who presided, quoted the latest restrictions in the Hull and Wellington areas, and said there they were making the' requisite savings without affecting industry. If the same savings in water-healer units as effected in the V/aitemota area were made in Auckland. industry need not be cut. One of the great difficulties in Auckland was that the board could not cut off domestic consumers living adjacent to essential industries.
Power cuts in Wellington from today are: Fridays, midnight to 7 a.m. Sa!urday, 9 a.m. to 10.45 a.m.. 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., midnight to 7 a.m. Sunday; Sundays, 9 a.m. to 10.45 a.m.. 1.30 p.m. to 4 p.m.; Monday, midnight to (1 are. Tuesday. Commercial electric radiators rosv be used with one element only between 8.30 a.m. and noon and between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. and not at all between 4 p.m. and G p.m.
Shop window lighting is prohibited except on Fridays between 5.30 p.m. and 9.15 p.m. The use of the day switch on domestic electric water heaters is prohibited.
Hutt Valley
The Hutt Valiev Power. Board’s culp are; Every night, 10.30 p.m. 1o 11 p.m.; Saturdays, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.: Sundays, 8.30 a.m. to 10.30 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 3.30 p.m. Electric radiators are prohibited where there is any alternative means of heating. Where there is no alternative means, one element only of each radiator may be used for four hours a day.
Domestic water heaters must not be turned on for more than 5G hours in a week, and may only be used between 9 p.m. and 7 a.m. each day.
Rain At Lakes
Rain totalling 0.47 in fell at Taupe in the 24 hours ended 9 a.m. yesterday and 0.19 in fell at Waiknremoann in the same period. • However, no change occurred in the level of either lake. With its coal stocks reduced to 809 tons. King’s Wharf power station generated at only 10.000 kilowatts yesterday.
This was only half the output if produced earlier this week.
