H.S. Boarders To Remain Over Easier

Pupils boarding at Whangarei High School hostels will remain in residence during Easter. This was decided on at a consultation between the Board of Governors and the principals of the Whangarei Boys’ and Girls’ High Schools. Pupils will remain at Lupton House (girls) and Carruth House (boys) from Thursday afternoon, March 25, to Tuesday afternoon, March 0. Owing to the official restrictions applying to poliomyelitis areas in the province, many boarders will be legally barred from visiting their homes during Easter, and it is felt that it would be fairer to keep all boarders in residence. AVOIDING CONTACTS Since the reopening of the schools every effort has been made to keep boarders’ contacts outside their respective school areas to a bare minimum and the general Easter restriction will continue this policy. Approximately 200 pupils will be affected as, at present, both houses have practically their full quota of 100. In announcing this decision to the boarders of Carruth House yesterday, the headmaster (Mr H. A. Henderson) expressed the hope that the boys would take the restriction in good part and would not be too disappointed. The full complement of resident masters and mistresses will remain on duty over Easter and arrangements are being made to provide entertainment as some compensation for the restriction.
