Mutual-Aid Ties With Transjordan

LONDON, Wed. (10 a.m.).— The new Anglo-Transjordan alliance, signed at Amman, strengthens the mutual-aid provisions of the 1946 treaty. Britain no longer has the unrestricted right to station troops in Transjordan, but Transjordan invites Britain to maintain RAF units at the AmmanMafrak' airfields.

The new Anglo-Transjordan Joint Defence Board, if necessary, recommends the stationing in peacetime of other British units in Transjordan. Each party agrees to aid the other if the other becomes engaged in war. Britain continues to train Transjordan forces and to provide £2,000,000 annually towards their upkeep. Arms of the two countries will be standardised.
