Two-Lifers Meet In Dominion Bowls

DUNEDIN, Sat. (P.A.)—When play was continued in the Dominion bowling championships this morning, the first games were confined to singles, in which six two-lifers were still engaged.

The greens were still a little heavy but were playing faster than yesterday.

The Singles two-lifers were J. Benson (Balmoral). J. H. Mingins (Onehunga), M. M. Buchan (Te Aroha), C. E. Tyrrell (Mornington), A. W. Ball (Christchurch RSA).

Tyrrell and Ball, and Mingins and Buchan met. but the games resulted in somewhat easy wins for Ball and Mingins. In the former game, the scores were level at 10—all at the 14th head, but Ball had the run of the game from then on, and won 18 —10.

Against Mingins, Buchan twice had the lead in the early stages, but after leading at the seventh head did not score again until the lath. Mingins won 19—11. . W. Wearne (Te Aroha) had a comfortable margin from D. McNab (Roslyn), eliminating the Dunedin player 19—14. WIDE MARGINS GENERAL Another Dunedin man to be eliminated was T. Crossan (Caversham), who played M. Marsick (Ponsonby). Marsick led 7—l at one stage, but the game resolved itself into a . close struggle. Apart from this game which ended 14 —12, the first singles games were not as close as was expected. E. R. Lynneberg led for four heads against A. Callaghan (Te Aroha), but was not in it for the rest of the game and was eliminated 21 —10. TENTH ROUND STARTS A Te Aroha man eliminated J. D. Crisp (Temuka) in the ninth round. A strong contender, M. R. Buchan (Te Aroha), was eliminated by N. E. Jolly (St Clair) in his second defeat of the day. This was a close game, Jolly winning 16—15. M. Marsick (Ponsonby) had a similar game with R. Henry (Sydenham), winning 21—19. This was the first tenth round game to be played. A Christchurch RSA bowler, who still survived after the eighth round was W. Chapman. He had a margin of eight points over N. McGorlick (Bluff). E. Chadwick (Hawera) eliminated W. H. Dilicar (Khandallah), 23—13.
