PARIS. Thu. (10 a.m.) Australia beat South-West France at Bordeaux by eight points to seven, after leading 3—o at half-time. The heavier Australian XV early threatened the French defences. The steadiness of the French full-back, Loustalot. mainly held them. Play was fast and exciting, despite a muddy ground. The Australians took the lead when Allen scored a try after a movement in which Buchan and McMaster were prominent.
After the interval the Frenchmen launched two dangerous attacks, and Behercgaray equalised with a penalty goal. As the result of some brilliant work by their rearguard the Frenchmen gained the initiative and look the lead when Vaslin dropped a field-goal. Close on time Powell capped a brilliant Australian movement with a try. which Tonkin converted
