If Schools Stay Shut
AUCKLAND Thu. (P.A.). —“Assignments of work for egch class issued normally by the Correspondence School Wellington are being printed for use if necessary during February should the schools remain closed because of the infantile paralysis epidemic,” said an Education Department official today. These assignments, in the form of booklets, had been prepared for classes from Prime 3 to Form 11, inclusive. In addition, special broadcasting education services had been arranged. The official said it was not yet decided whether the schools would remain closed in the early part of the new school year.
REOPENING OF SCHOOLS When asked about the reopening of schools, the medical officer of health at Auckland (Dr L. S. Davis) said yesterday that the question was not even being considered at the present time. No estimate of when schools in the • Auckland Province would reopen could yet be attempted, the chairman of the Auckland Education Board (Mr G. K. Hamilton) said yesterday. The question would be considered when the Health Department could give an “all-clear signal.’
