Nome Morgerafhoy As Corn Speculator
WASHINGTON, Wed. (11 a.m.)—The former Secretary of the Treasury (Mr Henry Morgenthau) was disclosed today as one of the speculators on the grain market last June. His name is revealed in a list furnished by the Secretary of Agriculture (Mr Clinton Anderson) in response to a Congressional order. Mr Morgenthau speculated in corn and held 195,000 bushels on the “short” side, which means that he was gambling on the prospect of prices dropping. Agriculture Department officials said that any speculator on the short side on .June 30 would have lost because corn prices skyrocketed in the next few months when it became obvious that there would be a small corn crop.
LEG INJURY Struck by a boat trolley, lan Dixon, 18, a visitor from New Plymouth, who was staying at Tamaterau, suffered lacerations of the right leg. He was taken to the Whangarei District Hospital, where his condition is reported as satisfactory.
