Pamir To Load For Dominion
WELLINGTON, Thu. (P.A.) The barque Pamir, which arrived at Gravesend on December 22, has completed discharging cargo at London, according to cabled advice received by the ship’s Wellington agents, the Shaw, 3avill and Albion Company. The vessel had finished discharging wool, tallow and hides by January 5 in 14 days. The future -movements of the Pamir are uncertain, but shipping officials said she would now be allotted to an overseas company for loading for New Zealand.
A possible cargo was basic slag from Antwerp. The despatching of the barque to the Seychelles Islands in the Indian Ocean to load guano for New Zealand had been considered, but this had later been decided against. NOT SUITABLE FOR COAL As the vessel has completed her discharge the Shaw, Savill and Albion Company, her New Zealand loading agents, now relinquish control and she reverts back to Government control through her owner’s agents, the Union Steam Ship Company, until she is allotted to an overseas company for her homeward loading. The suggestion made in a cablegram from London that the Pamir may load coal for New Zealand was referred to Mr C. H.- Benney, Under-Secretary for Mines, who said the matter had not yet been decided.
» Actually the Pamir was not a suitable vessel for coal cargoes.
