Human Chain Saves Swimmer From Surf

A human chain was formed at Whangaruru yesterday to rescue Mr F. J. Oliver, of Whangarei. who got into difficulties in the surf. Strong easterly winds made the sea rcugh on East Coast beaches and several other narrow escapes were reported. An attempt to launch a boat Jo save Mr Oliver failed, and it was then that other swimmers formed a chain to bring the distressed man ashore. After receiving medical attention Mr Oliver was able to return home but was confined to his bed today with a slight touch of pneumonia. Three children who were swept beyend the breakers at the same beach were also rescued.
