Britain To Pay Canada Higher Food Prices

OTTAWA, Sun.—Under recently negotiated food contracts with Canada, Britain would pay increased prices ranging from 8 per cent to 20 per cent tor her purchases of Canadian beef, bacon, eggs and cheese, said the Minister of Agriculture (Mr J. G. Gardiner) on Saturday. The bacon and beef contracts were for the 1948 calendar year, and the egg contract for. 12 months beginning late this month. The cheese contract was for 12 months beginning on April 1. The poultry contract was not being renewed. Britain had agreed to buy Canada’s surplus beef bacon eggs and cheese in 1949. Prices for next year would be negotiated later.
