H.S. Girls To Nurse During Holidays

DARGAVILLE, Sat. (Sp.).—The number of trainees offering for the next maternity nursing course was far below requirements, the medical superintendents of the Northern Wairoa Hospital told the Kaipara Hospital Board.

The matron said six nurses and eight domestics were urgently required. An offer by a small group of girl pupils of the Dargaville District High School to work in the hospital during the holidays to relieve the shortage of staff was accepted by the board. Mr L. J. Mason, careers guidance officer at the school, advised that two of the girls would work for the six weeks’ holiday period and another four would join them after the New Year.

The matron said members .of the Te Kopuru troop of Boy Scouts visited the hospital nightly to help with dishwashing. while assistance was also given by members of the Girls' Brigade.

A letter expressing the board's appreciation is to be sent to the Te Kopuru scoutmaster. Mr L. Millett.
