No Change In Two British By-Elections
LONDON, Fri. (1 p.m.)—No change in party representation occurred as the result of two by-elections held yesterday. V
The East Edinburgh by-election resulted: John Wheatley (Labour), 16,906; D. Matthews (Conservative and Liberal National), 11,490; John Junor (Liberal), 3379; Mrs M. Dott (Scottish Nationalist), 1682.
The by-election was due to the appointment of Mr G. R. Thompson (Labour) as Lord Justice Clerk of Scotland. In 1945 he received 15.482 votes and the Conservative, the only other candidate, 9665.
' Howdenshire: G. W. Odey (Con.), 23,344; T. Neville (Lab.). 9298; J. E. Wilson (Lib.). 3819. The voting in 1945 was: C. W. H. Glossop (Con.), 21,343; T. Neville (I.ab.), 11,161; J. E. Wilson <Lib.). 5669.
