Hikurangi-Kamo Make History
For the second time no candidate has offered to represent the combined Hikurangi artd Kamo Town Districts on the Whangarei Hospital Board. Nominations are now being called for the third time.
The position is believed to be unique in New Zealand local body history. Even if there is a precedent it is extremely rare. Nominations were first called, together with nominations for all other local bodies, to close on October 29. No nominations were received and a nextraordinary vacancy was declared, new nominations being called to close on November 20. Again no nominations were received and a further attempt is being made to secure a representative, nominations closing on December 8.
The Internal Affairs Department has been advised of'' the position and advice is being awaited. POWER OF APPOINTMENT
When the question of KamoHikurangi representation was referred to him, the secretary of the Whangarei Hospital Board (Mr L. Wilton) said that the board would sit without a representative of that area until one was appointed. The Hospital and Charitable Institutions Act provides that, in the event of a representative not being appointed by a contributing local body, the Governor-General may appoint a qualified person to fill the vacancy. Such an action would follow a recommendation by the Internal Affairs Department.
