Queensland Mines May Be 'Tied Up'
BRISBANE, Mon. (1.30 p.m.)—The Miners’ Federation is attempting a settlement in the dispute which threatens to tie up the entire Queensland coal industry. The men claim that the Premier (Mr Hanlon) has failed to honour assurances that miners would be given better compensation allowances. The federation president (Mr I. Williams) said that if it was humanly possible to settle the dispute with the Queensland Government, the central executive would be only too willing to negotiate. If the settlement move failed, there was every prospect that Queensland miners would cease work for an indefinite period.
