Mairtown Juniors Open New Season
With a membership of 107, when a limit of 100 had been set. the popularity and value of the Mairtown Junior Tennis Club has been established. The club was formed last season when membership was restricted to 45. Its second season officially opened this morning when a large muster of boys and girls took part. Joijn Bluck is club captain, Bill Dent is vice-captain and secretary, and the committee comprises Marjon Kernohan and Joyce Snow, and Allan Rogers, Murray Jones, Brian Parkin and Don Ingham. All courts were in use for a Yankee tournament in which the winners were: Boys, senior: Don Higgins; junior: Barry Carr. Girls, senior: Laurel Philpott; junior: Sally Birchall. Prizes were donated by Mr Jack Birchall. a life member of the senior club, which holds its official opening on Monday.
